I totally agree Ben, IPTV is the way of the future and with so many sites out there willing to offer it, i think its going to surpass traditional tv. The only thing is, most sites charge you to watch tv or you have to wait while your show downloads.. thus my favourite online tv site so far is a little gem called VIEWMY.TV seriouly, have a look, theres a tonne of channels available to watch straight from the browser, its free and oh my god.. no bloody ads! haha

@ben well at least Channel Nine have stopped the stupid tactic of buying the rights to a show, and then burying it. That is not showing it at all. None of the commercial station have any idea how to build a cult following, besides usual the short sharp run of mindless bogan TV.

TV executives should be scared for another reason you didn't get into... they've made it impossible to watch shows even when you do bother to check the schedule.

Consider Channel 10 during the seemingly-endless Big Brother season. *NOTHING* is ever on time after any BB coverage, since BB always runs over time. So if you want to watch whatever is on afterwards, you either sit through 5 to 45 minutes of BB shit you didn't want to see, or you tape the next three hours and hunt for it later, or you simply stop watching, or you go buy the DVD.

Then of course you've got the "never the same timeslot twice" syndrome, where they move a show around so often that nobody can ever remember when it's supposed to be on and ratings plummet. Even The Sopranos didn't survive that treatment.

Or for some real fun, try Channel 9's strategy this year: buy as little as possible, trot out all your network stars in a long parade of "old footage repackaged and called new" TV shows. When the head of the network still insists on presenting a game show, you know they're trying to cut costs ;)

As soon as people have an affordable, viable alternative to free to air; they'll be gone... and Australian TV will have brought it on itself, frankly.
