Australian / Allied War Memorial Singapore

Have to go off and compulsory vote today in our federal election. Not that our vote (in Western Australia) counts for much (that’s another issue). Anyway this entire cycle of voting every four and bit years for the federal government has got me thinking of the various cycles that life presents us with.

This is just getting a little bit insane! Yeah Perth has done BarCampPerth, WA Web Awards, WebJam, PodCampPerth, plus all the AWIA mini talks, and now we have few more events to round the year off, just well because we have nothing better to do than have events all the time, or as Myles Eftos suggests learn macrame.

Leading off in date order there is a free ColdFusion mini-conference directed by Adobe CFCamp (27 November 2007, 9am - 4pm), want to learn the latest in ColdFusion, register today.

Play of the light, is it all just a trick of the light

Now I am not a fan of Facebook and its closed garden of social networking, I tried it all out, I got bored, simple. I find the application just an endless spammer with notifications from zombies, to the colouring of someones dog’s left nipple. Frankly I just don’t want to know about most of it. My life is just way too busy for most of Facebook. I have also stayed away for the addictive games (sorry Kay) in Facebook as well, for good reason.

Meraki Mini in Box

It started with Mark Pesce at Web Directions South 2007, then it was moved on by Lachlan Hardy, with a little help on the west coast from Myles Eftos the Meraki migrated over to Western Australia. So these mesh networks are starting to popup every where in an effort to freethenet and provide free wifi across the country. People have already started in Canberra and with lots of known Meraki in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne this is surely going to increase.

For the most part setting up a Meraki network gateway is easy.

  • Plugin to network gateway (with network cable).
