Not all government departments are that far behind the wave. Some galleries, libraries, achieves and museums are using the web to deliver services to their communitiess. Probably behind their university counterparts, but well ahead of other government departments.

I could a dozen or more examples of blogs in the glam sector, the PowerHouse Museum is a leading light in Oz as far as web2.0 is concerned. The only blogs I know of in the rest of the Australian government sector that allow comments (and both are moderated) are HREOC http://hreocblog.com/ and NSW Office of Fair Trading http://www.blogs.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/rippedoff/

@Matthew can't tell you specifics at present.

As for real education, Yes 100% behind that. A real conference getting to the heart of the matter. overcoming real issues, told by people that have really done it.

@Gary: What was the Web 2.0 implementation in government that you stumbled upon?

I agree that many people (yes, even consultants) don't know what Web 2.0 is and what it can really offer organisations (government or otherwise).

I'd like to see real education. A real conference that deals with these issues -- not just singing the hallelujah chorus and worshipping at the foot of wikis, blogs and tagging.
