Picture of A Black Tie

Today the finalists for the WA Web Awards for 2007 were released. This is the third year that the WAWAs have been presented, and this year I’m deeply humbled by a finalist nomination for this blog. This was very unexpected and considering the outstanding quality of the other finalists for the awards, I do feel a little out of place.

Eight Pieces of Random

A leaf on Stone in a Zen garden, Random Order.

Don’t usually do these, but this one will be interesting. Kathryn Greenhill has tagged me into the 8 random things meme (and I can’t reuse my twitter posts). I was thinking 8 random things isn’t hard, till you have to do it. So what do you put in a list of 8 random things. Are we talking about 8 random things about me, maybe. When I think about that, this isn’t what this blog is about, so you’re not getting that Kathryn. But then again what about 8 random elements or items that are floating around or influencing me at present.

Well it’s been a little too long since this blog felt the cool breeze on its skin, and the warm caress of the sun on its tags. So its time shed those outer layers and enjoy the freedom this site was born with, a naked body.

No style, no design, just the raw information. April 5th is the . On this day this site will be without any style. This is all in an effort to promote web standards and good semantic markup. Its a day when web sites can show us what they are made of, the raw unstyled information.

A Solution to Adwords Spam

Google has come under fire of late due to the inconsistent nature of the adwords network in relation to allowing the spread of and sites. Whether this criticism is fairly leveled is another matter. I have discussed this at length previously and as pointed out by Miles Burke, maybe Google is now promoting blog comment spam.

Now I was thinking on this the other day, the problem is that Google has a mainly automated system for adwords registration and delivery. I suspect they randomly dip into the pool of advertisers and manually vet them from time to time. I also would imagine that you would have matching analysis on the adwords and resultant advertisers site, and that this is applied again at random or to risk locations or information areas.
