Card Sorting - Donna Spencer

Rating:
4

I learnt card sorting via trial and error, lots of practice, reading the occasional blog or article, fine tuning as you go, that was while ago.

Back then Perth was a little isolated, in has only been recently that web based workshops or conferences have been held in Perth that we have had excess face to face with the best of the web.

This is where practical books like Donna Spencer’s Card Sorting can fill the gap.

Now you would think that this book would be a waste of time for someone like me.   Well that’s what I thought too, but I was wrong.

Stairways 2

The other day I went to get my business cards reprinted, you know it’s a thing you do from time to time, and with that process you naturally review the information on them.

Shag Bar...okay

I was having a discussion the other day with some fellow web designer friends on the skills that you required to be stay in this field long term.

Sure we all agreed you need to at least have the core design skills, understanding of layout, colour theory, typography and the usual tricks of the trade. The platform that you used to deliver your designs was immaterial, be that Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks or the like it didn’t really matter, the end result was what was important. That’s a given.
